ETHICAL CODE
The ETHICAL CODE of Cuidum caregivers is to understand the special sensitivity involved in caring for people in a particularly vulnerable situation and the understanding of the delicate emotional state in the family.
For Cuidum, the acceptance of the following standards for good care practice is a mandatory requirement by their caregivers:
- Attention to their work obligations, with responsibility and diligence in complying with the hours established at the beginning of the employment contract between caregiver and family.
- Respecting the right to privacy of the patient and the family as well as keeping the environment of the patient and the family nucleus confidential.
- Ensure and prevent that situations that endanger the integrity of the patient as well as their due care do not occur, due to the caregiver's negligence.
- Maintain a relationship of coexistence with the patient based on respect and dignity.
- Be aware that an unjustified abandonment of service implies an unresponsible and disrespectful attitude towards the family that has placed their trust in the care of their loved one.
- Ensure that any type of change in the employment situation is communicated to the family sufficiently in advance in order not to affect the quality of the patient's daily care or in turn alter the normality of family life.
- Take care of your image and personal hygiene to promote a pleasant work environment between professional, patient and family.
Family budget
The investment that a family has to make to meet the expense of caring for dependent members is often an extraordinary effort that requires the collaboration of several children and can sometimes generate many conflicts.
The government does not always provide live-in care support, which is the preferred option for families.
A family is not a company. And although you are required to hire caregivers as if you were, the lack of financial resources and knowledge is a sometimes an insurmountable barrier.
We believe that the better the salary for the caregivers, the greater their reward for the hard work they do, and we pass this information on to the families. However, we also know that for most families it is not possible to improve the salary conditions of caregivers and they already make a great effort to pay for live-in care services.
Dependency and families
Historically, women have assumed the care of children, the elderly and the sick within families. Nowadays, society has advanced a lot in the process of incorporating women into the labour market, so it is common for families to turn to professional caregivers when illness or dependency affects their loved ones.
When one of our loved ones needs care and as a family we have obligations and responsibilities that prevent us from caring for ourselves, we suffer great stress.
At Cuidum we know that families come to us feeling lost, vulnerable and stressed. It is important that we put ourselves in their shoes and understand that they are asking for help. For a family, finding a suitable carer whom they can rely on is of great value.
Price fixing policy
With the legal hiring of caregivers, the minimum professional salary is guaranteed
We try to encourage families to improve conditions as much as possible to compensate caregivers for their work and retain them in their work, so as to minimize turnover personnel, which negatively affects the quality of care.
The reality in the home care industry
A high proportion of the home care sector is based on the black economy, with non-professional caregivers in an irregular situation. Apart from being illegal this a bad idea, since the consequences derived from this illegality can be much more expensive.
A family that is reported for having illegally hired a caregiver is liable under the law and may face civil and even criminal penalties.
It is not difficult for a family to be denounced for illegal hiring. It only takes a carer suffering a domestic accident and go to a health center to be treated to highlight the illegal situation of the worker.
For this reason, at Cuidum we work to raise awareness about the importance of hiring legally. It is an act of justice for workers and is required by law.
